About the Keyword Combiner

Many good search phrases follow a pattern: a modifier, a core topic and a qualifier. Think "easy keto recipes for beginners" or "quick keto recipes cookbook". Writing out every combination by hand is tedious and you will miss some. This combiner builds them all at once.

Enter your core topics as base keywords, then add optional prefixes (words that go before) and suffixes (words that go after). With include bare combinations on, you also get the base keyword alone and with only a prefix or only a suffix. Duplicate results are removed automatically.

Every phrase shows its character count, and phrases longer than a single KDP keyword field are flagged so you can drop or shorten them. The results are a brainstorming list, not a finished keyword set: check each phrase for relevance and real search use, then paste the best into the KDP Keyword Formatter or use them as Amazon Ads keyword ideas.

How It Works

Each box is split into entries on new lines, commas, semicolons, tabs or pipes. Repeated entries within a box are ignored.

For every base keyword, the tool pairs every prefix option with every suffix option. When bare combinations are included, an empty prefix and an empty suffix are added as options, so the base keyword alone and the one-sided versions appear too.

Results are capped at the maximum you set, up to 2,000. If more combinations are possible, you will see a notice with the full possible count.

Formula

Possible combinations
(Prefixes + 1) × Base keywords × (Suffixes + 1), with bare combinations on
Without bare combinations
Prefixes × Base keywords × Suffixes (when both lists have entries)

Example

Prefixes easy and quick, base keyword keto recipes, suffixes for beginners and cookbook

  1. With bare combinations: (2 + 1) × 1 × (2 + 1) = 9 phrases.
  2. They include "keto recipes", "easy keto recipes", "keto recipes cookbook" and "easy keto recipes for beginners".
  3. The longest, "quick keto recipes for beginners", is 32 characters, so every phrase fits in one field.
  4. With bare combinations off: 2 × 1 × 2 = 4 phrases, each with both a prefix and a suffix.

9 phrase variations with bare combinations, or 4 without, all within the per-field character limit.

Important Notes

  • The combiner does not check grammar or search demand. Some combinations will read oddly; delete them.
  • Results are limited to 2,000 to keep your browser responsive.
  • Character counts include spaces, the same way KDP counts them.
  • Nothing you enter is uploaded.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a good base keyword?

A short phrase that describes your book's core topic or genre in readers' words, such as "keto recipes" or "cozy mystery". Prefixes and suffixes then add the angle: audience, format, level or setting.

Can I leave prefixes or suffixes empty?

Yes. Only base keywords are required. With no prefixes, you get base plus suffix combinations, and the reverse.

Why are some phrases marked Over the limit?

They are longer than one KDP keyword field allows. They cannot be pasted into a field as they are, but you might still use them as Amazon Ads keywords, which have their own length rules.

Should I put all combinations in my KDP keyword fields?

No. Repeating the same words in many orders wastes characters. Pick a handful of distinct, relevant phrases and let the [KDP Keyword Formatter](/tools/kdp-keyword-formatter) pack them.

Why does the possible count differ from the number shown?

Either the results hit your maximum, or some combinations produced the same phrase and were merged. The notice appears only when the maximum cut the list short.
